Sun-kissed skin, salt in the air, and sand under your toes – living near a beach is a dream for many. But why shall it remain a dream when it can be your reality?

Siargao is on the radar for being one of the hottest places to visit over the past few years. It was dubbed the “Best Island in Asia” by the premier travel magazine Conde Nast Traveler in 2021 and 2019.

If you’re enchanted by Siargao’s majestic beaches, coconut tree-filled roads, and simple provincial life, you’re not the only one. Many expats, digital nomads, and even celebrities like Nadine Lustre have decided to move to Siargao.

Relocating to a whole new place – an island far from the city at that – can be scary. You cannot make a decision in a snap of a finger. But in this article, let’s discuss why Siargao is worth the risk.

Pack your bags because here are 7 reasons why you should make Siargao, the tropical island paradise, your next home.

Siargao: The Tropical Island Paradise

Located in the province of Surigao Del Norte, Siargao consists of 48 islets with 9 municipalities. Siargao is so small that you can tour the main island via motorbike in just 3-4 hours!

General Luna is the town tourists flock to. The famous Cloud 9 surf spot can also be found here. Off the coast of General Luna, you get a glimpse of the smaller islands with their white sand beaches and clear blue waters. Meanwhile, you can shop for groceries, medicines, and other necessities in Siargao’s center of commerce, Dapa Town.

  • Live the Laid-back Island Life

If you’re used to the hustle and bustle of the city, Siargao’s slow and relaxed culture is a breath of fresh air. People here are not in a hurry. They savor every moment.

Do you remember how in the city, it always feels like 24 hours is not enough to accomplish everything? In Siargao, people have time. They work on projects, do household chores, have night outs, go surfing, and still have time for themselves to relax and meditate.

In Siargao, work-life balance is the norm. You will learn to take pleasure in the little things. Bask in the sun, ride the waves, and work with a spectacular view of the beach and mountains – live the ultimate island life at Siargao.

  • Endless Nature Activities

After a hard day’s work at a quaint cafe nearby, would you like to surf the world-famous waves at Cloud 9, take a joyride on the coconut tree-filled roads, or have an ice-cold beer at a local beachfront bar? There are many things you can do during your downtime! At Siargao, you are limited only by your imagination.

During the weekends, enjoy a day tour of island hopping at the three popular islets: Daku Island, Guyam Island, and Naked Island.

If lagoons and caves are more to your taste, take a trip to Bucas Grande. Explore majestic blue lagoons, a stingless jellyfish sanctuary, and almost-mystical caves with glowing waters. Let’s not forget the Sugba and Tojoman Lagoon, Taktak Falls, Palm Tree Viewpoint, and many more!

Every day is an adventure at Siargao.

  • Fresh and Healthy Food Everyday

Living on a small island, you get to feast on fresh seafood catches of the day. Sumptuous boodle fights are also customary in the area. There are many cafes and restaurants to choose from! If you’re a vegan/vegetarian, many places cater to various dietary preferences.

With the abundance of healthy food and limited fast (unhealthy) food in sight, healthy living will be second nature to you at Siargao!

  • Make Friends from All Walks of Life

Siargao is diverse. You will meet smiling locals, expats, digital nomads, and visiting tourists. All these people come from different backgrounds but are united with the desire to experience Siargao.

Get ready to encounter the world in the hallways, restaurants, or even cafes where you work! But that’s a part of Siargao’s beauty – exposure to different cultures, vibing with different personalities, and listening to a range of new and interesting perspectives.

The locals are super friendly too. They don’t shy away from helping tourists find their way around the island, or sharing their abundant produce! Free coconuts, anyone?

  • Vibrant Nightlife

If the day is for work and beaching, nights at Siargao are for drinks and partying!

There’s always something happening every night at Siargao. There are numerous bars and restaurants (most of them in General Luna) hosting live performances and events on designated days of the week.

Whether you want a chill night out or one where you dance it away, Siargao has everything you need to end the day well.

  • Inexpensive Cost of Living

Live the island life without breaking the bank. You can live comfortably on the island for as low as Php 20 000 ($400)! To put that into perspective, living in Manila for Php 20,000 without cutting on luxuries (eating out, gym memberships, etc.) is downright impossible. That amount may even be eaten solely by your rent (1 bedroom condominiums cost around Php 15,000 – Php 25, 000 or $300 – $500).

Siargao is notorious for hearty, delicious meals for as low as Php 200 ($4). Enjoy your local specialty coffee at a mid-range Php 100 ($2-3). Your utilities? Electricity and water bills can go as low as Php 1000 ($20) a month!

Motorbike or bicycle monthly rents can range from Php 300 to Php 600 ($6-12) per day. So if you’re moving to this paradise, getting a Php 50,000 ($1000) motorbike would be more economic.

  • Siargao Real Estate Market is Booming

With Siargao attracting thousands of tourists every month, demand for real estate properties, especially beachfront properties, skyrocketed over the years. Siargao is still being discovered and developed into a tourist destination, as more F&B and hospitality businesses crop up to provide memorable travel experiences. In other words, the Siargao real estate market is still brimming with investment potential.

Paradise Siargao offers beautiful beachfront properties for lease or sale. Some have a scenic view of nearby islets, while others are near lush mangrove forests. Some are located closer to the hub of tourist and commercial activity, while others are in more quiet, private corners.  Whether you’re looking to build your dream beach house or invest in a hip resort, these properties may be suitable.
